The President Came to Memphis

Yesterday, the President of the United States came to Memphis, TN. He wasn't here to talk about budget deficits, the war on terrorism, or whether or not he plans to run again in 2012. He came to give the commencement speech at Booker T. Washington High School's graduation. BTW won a contest called "Race to the Top." Their improved test scores and graduation rates,  along with a video they submitted led to 44 giving their commencement speech. See their finalist video here.

My favorite part of the graduation ceremony was when one of the graduates, Christopher Dean, took the podium to introduce President Obama. You can see his speech introducing the President here.

The President's speech was full of promise and hope for children graduating from a high school located in one of the poorest and roughest zip codes not only in Tennessee, but the entire country--38126. (His speech here.)

Also, see the Valedictorian, Alexis Wilson's, speech here. Salutatorian, Vashti Taylor's, speech can be found here.

The President was only here for about 3 hours and 45 minutes; however, no matter Republican or Democrat, this was an exciting moment for the city of Memphis.

Naked Palette

Sorry I have disappeared for the last few days! I've been in Charleston, and I didn't have my camera cord to upload any pictures!

I've been meaning to upload my review of Urban Decay's Naked Palette for quite some time (a few weeks); however, I got caught up getting ready to get out of town and honestly forgot (whoops!).

I will start by saying there is a reason this thing keeps selling out in stores. It's amazing! When I ordered mine it was sold out on Sephora's website. Now it says it is back in stock (with limited quantities). I ordered mine from Urban Decay's site. I was so excited when that box showed up on my doorstep. I had to force myself to take pictures before I dug right in.

It can consolidate almost all of your everyday (and even some weekend) eyeshadows into one easily organized palette.

It even comes with a small sample of Urban Decay's
Eyeshadow Primer Potion.

There are so many different looks you can create with this palette. Colors range from nudes to charcoals and grays.

I'm seriously obsessed. I use it every single day.

The palette contains many different finishes including matte, shimmer, even a little glitter. I urge anyone that is a fan of neutral tone eyeshadows to RUN, not walk, to your closest Sephora store (if you don't have a store near you then go online to either Sephora or Urban Decay's site).

Happy Mother's Day!

"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts." ~Washington Irving

"If evolution really works, how come mothers only have two hands?"  ~Milton Berle

"Mothers are all slightly insane." ~J.D. Salinger

"I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford. Then I want to move in with them." ~Phyllis Diller
The last one especially reminds me of my mother. She always tells me that when I grow up and buy a big house, all she asks is that I build her a guest house in the back. She told me her job would be to lay by the pool and "keep an eye on it." Thanks mom. :)

I can't be there in person to celebrate Mother's Day with her this year because I'm in Charleston, BUT maybe I'll bring her some goodies back? Hope everyone has a great Mother's Day. Don't forget to tell your mothers you love them!

This is a picture from a few years ago when
my hair was super short (for me at least!)

Love you Mom! Hope you have a Happy Mother's Day!!

Happy Fri/1 Day until Charleston Day!!

Hope everyone had a great Cinco de Mayo! Here's a couple pics from my "wild" (not so much) but fun night out with my BFFF and D!

Dustin was having trouble taking a regular photo.
I think I had given up by this point.

Today is also the 1 day mark until I leave for Charleston, SC! D is sad he won't be coming on this trip, BUT I'm excited for some girl time! A couple girlfriends and I are going up to see our friend, Patrice, that moved there a few months ago. I was just in Charleston in March, but the weather was still a bit chilly. I'm excited to go back and HOPEFULLY (fingers crossed) enjoy some warm warmer weather!

Here's some pictures from my last trip to Charleston in March:

Beautiful cobblestone streets in Downtown Charleston

We had a little too much fun at the aquarium that day!

Can't wait to see what this trip has in store for me and to get out of Memphis for a bit!
